Sat 03.11.06 - Winners: Poker Night, 3xACharm

It was a cozy kinda night... We had 5 players and one spectator (YEAH LIN).  We moved the gaming table in front of the "big" TV where 4 volleyball players and a very nice boyfriend of one, watched some HighDefn FIVB World Championship Volleyball and played a mini NL Texas Holdem' tournament.   We watched the Men's Bronze Medal Match between Japan vs. Italy (HOT HOT HOT!).   And then we watched an excellent Men's match between Brazil and China.      WOW!   Volleyball and poker, see what you missed!?

The tournament started once we got our snacks and drinks situated, very important.   Then we all made sure we had a good viewing angle to watch volleyball in the background.   And then... We began:

Sitting on the BUTTON:   Ian
1st Position:   Ben T. (Why does he always end up in front of me!  My nemisis! lol)
2nd Position:  MLD
3rd Position:  Jonah
4th Position:   Sam

We started out really slow, blinds were $10/$20.     The first one defeated was Sam, who lost her ALL-IN to Jonah.    Next major play was Jonah calling an ALL-IN against MLD with only a few extra chips to cover the decision.   Can you say "MAJOR SUCK OUT ON THE RIVER!??"   I won that LARGE pot, by a Jack on the River...oooh baby

Jonah, was eliminated shortly after by another suck out on the river from Ian.   

Ian was chip leader for a good amount of the tournament, but he was a victim of my demise with my trips Snowmen (love those pocket 8's).

Heads up between MLD and Ben T. did not last too long.  I was on the short(er) stack and did not play my last hand as well as I would have liked.   I did not raise on the button with a KQo so Ben just called the BB with a 74o (DOH!).   He picked up 2 7's on the flop, which I never put him on, and I went all in on the Turn when I got my King.   Oh well...

Winners: 2006 - First "Poker" Night

Well, it was ladies night again at the MLD Poker Palace/Love Shack.   We had 8 players at one table featuring some new faces and a familiar sampling of "the regulars".

Total tournament time was 2 hours and 15 minutes.   The top three consisted of:

1st   Melissa "Undefeated So Far"
2nd  MLD
3rd  Jonah "2x in the Money"

We had new poker chips and a fine table to work with.   The poker table has been officially christened with Bud Light by our undefeated champion at MLD Poker Palace who is 2 for 2 in first place.

Act I

I went down to Foxwoods last Saturday and it was an interesting day.   I started out playing at the $2/$4 LIMIT Holdem' table and I won my first four hands in a row.   Off to a good start, or so I thought.   I had Mr. Bronx on my right, and apparently I brought him all kinds of good luck which is nice, I like to help people.   My luck however was running cold because I have learned that skill has no bearing in the game of LIMIT Holdem', especially at a 2/4 table.   You will see people chasing a glimpse of dead family members to the river... It is ugly, and there is not much more to say about it.  I lost several times with the best starting hand, and this is because you cannot scare away those drawing fools with a whopping $2 or $4 bet!   Even raising doesn't work... Oh, another $2 for 3 to a flush on the flop....okie dokie....

I personally love the game of No Limit Holdem' and I prefer tournament style as that is mostly what I play.   I found out through one of my fellow poker buddies at Foxwoods that they offer these mini-tournaments called ACT I, ACT II and ACT III.   It is a $60 buy-in for ACT I and you play at a table of 10 until you get to the top 3, which at that point once #6 has been eliminated, the game ends and the top 3 get a $150 voucher (free buy-in) to ACT II.   Three of the four guys I was with tried to convince me to go back to LIMIT Holdem', one who insisted that the $4/$8 would be better...  No thanks, I decided to go for the ACT I and limit my "financial burden".   

Playing in ACT I turned out to be right up my alley.   I had two semi-pros at my table (found this out later).   I personally knocked out one of the pros on my ALL-IN bet with AQo.   My stack was bigger than his and he raised before the flop in 1st position so I went all-in.   He had pocket kings (doh!) but I caught an Ace on the flop, and on the turn!   It felt good, trip Aces will do that for ya!   I made it to the top three by eliminating BUBBA BIG BOY to my right... He was a little cocky calling my all-in bet with A3 and two 3's on the flop.   He called me with K8o, and he was left with $25 in chips with 4 people left.   He was eliminated in the next hand on a forced all in since he could not cover the blinds.

So now I have this voucher for ACT II which I hear is pretty tough.. .More semi-pros and tougher competition.   If I were to finish 1st in ACT II, I will be guaranteed a seat in a WPT Event playing against the PROS!   I do not want to get too far ahead of myself... I left Foxwoods after I won ACT I, you know, on a positive note.   Besides, the Pats were on that night and I did not want to miss any of the action.   I do not know when I will be back to Foxwoods yet...  TBD
